What a fantastic place, lovely reception and support from the staff especially Alwyn, Sue and Tara. We felt very welcome and are happy we chose Arcare Parkwood for our Fathers new home.
Unknowlegeable management, no communication (what little there was, was poor). Worked very hard to get new facility up and running, there were no tools so had to use my own at the start. Soon realised Residence Manager, Sue and General Services Manager, Natalie didn't really have much of a clue about maintenance issues. Was called to a meeting one hour before finish time on a friday and told my services were no longer required. There had never been any talk, warnings, or reviews etc. When asked the reason why, the only response I got was I didn't align to their values. I asked if my work ethics and quality was good and was told yes, but I didn't align to their values. I asked which values I didn't align to and once again, parrot fashion, was told I just didnt align to their values. Their "values" are uniqueness, flexibility, relationships and partnerships. What a joke the RM & GSM certainly didn't align with these values. Didn't try and foster any form of relationship/partnership GSM from hospitality background with no people skills at all. Residence Manager, Sue swears and smokes at facility (non-smoking facility) with other employee smokers who are getting paid outside normal break times to spend time smoking. Flexible...I worked without lunch breaks to get the facility up and running quite often. Was blindsided at termination meeting no prior discussion whatsoever or offer of support nor right of reply. Was told to ring HR for clarification. I have rang seven times, left messages and still no reply. Termination letter was signed by a Jennifer Tyrrell, (generic printed letter) rang her again no response. Rang fair work commission and was told Arcare are a long way off following best practices and procedures. As for their "value" of uniqueness well say no more. Meant to practice care and empathy but none shown to staff. I asked my GSM Natalie at meeting what she had to say, her reply "nothing, I'm just here as an observer" strange...she was my immediate boss and always had plenty to say. Too young and inexperienced for this role plus always being spoken down to by her in an inappropriate manner, even co workers commenting on this fact. Although I have qualifications and years of experience as a maintenance coordinator I was micro managed by my GSM to the point of being told what tools I would require to utilize for the job and at times how to do the job! Thank goodness I kept a very detailed diary of the list of daily requested tasks. These were always completed plus the many extra jobs from staff pulling me aside throughout the facility. So if they determine that for whatever reason you don't align with their "values" they'll terminate you without any reason and inform co-workers exactly the same reason as they informed me which breaches their own privacy and confidentiality as stated in their own written mantra. These so called "values" have many grey areas and who is the one person to determine and interpret them. Used my own money and vehicle for work related purposes, (some costs never refunded). Other employees too scared to speak out in fear of losing their jobs. Shiny brand new facility but such a shame bad management can be so detrimental to creating a harmonious environment that should exist in a facility like this for both clients and employees alike. I even had positive feedback on my liaison with clients and their families thanking me for my kindness and attention. This is just a snapshot of how the Residence Manager allows Arcare to operate at this Parkwood facility.
Modern, 5 Star, Beautiful home. Friendly supportive staff - amazing sense of community
I have been employed as an Allied health assistant with Arcare Parkwood since it opened. I have worked in aged care for many years and have never felt such community and interaction among residents. Since starting with Arcare Parkwood I have unfortunately found out my Father has cancer and is now in palliative care. The stress that comes with that, especially when you are in a new job with no leave or sick leave accrued is difficult. The support I have received from management and staff at Parkwood has been overwhelming, it allows me to focus on my family as we are going through this difficult time. I feel so blessed to work in such a supportive caring environment.
