Thank goodness it's now managed by the Blue Cross. With the COVID-19 situation, the place would have been in trouble if it were still owned by the Gunns. The Gunns, its previous owners would only provide sandwich gloves to the care staff. If you wanted to use the proper clinical gloves, you had to bring your own. They also micro-managed the ACFI as they were more focused on the profit than the care. I hope this is no longer the case.
From what I understand is Gables has closed however Gables on Finch is open for business at the same address.
My mum was at the Gables for a year and a half. Was a fabulous facility with friendly and genuinely caring staff. Mum deteriorated with dementia but the care never faltered. Her death was so moving and we all felt very supported and the family couldn’t be happier. Thoroughly recommend. We feel very fortunate.
Wonderful home for your loved one. My Aunty has been resident for over 2 years and she is very happy in the Paris wing. The staff are what make this place stand out from the rest. My aunty has had a hard time with falls for sometime and the staff have been amazing with her, and she feels loved by them all. When she has been in hospital she can't wait to see them and get home. Thankyou Gables crew.
The Gables in Camberwell is a great choice for the care of a loved one. My Mum has been a resident for nearly 4 years now. She started in The Paris building which is for people needing a lower level of care. She loved her room and all the activities that were provided, from the daily 9 Letter Word group puzzle in the lounge to trying out art and craft activities in the art studio and the various bus outings. After Mum had a fall and her Dementia advanced quite rapidly she was transferred into the main building to receive a higher level of care, which included help with daily showering and dressing that previously she could do for herself. All the staff are friendly, very polite and approachable, they always show the upmost respect for Mum and treat her with kindness. There is an 'open door' policy which means you can speak to any senior staff member at any time about anything that is concerning you. Over the years, not everything has been perfect all of the time, which is to be expected when there are so many factors that go into the smooth running of a care facility. However I have always been listened to and action has been taken when required. Of special mention at The Gables is the lovely Cafe Royale and the adjoining courtyard. It is open 5 afternoons, including weekends and brings together both residents with their families and friends in a lovely environment. Being able to have a real coffee or tea with a tasty treat is a great tonic for all. I've met so many wonderful people there over the years and it has really been my saving grace when visiting Mum as there is nothing like spending time together out in the sunshine and fresh air either sitting quietly or chatting to others. Meetings are held at The Gables every 2 months which all residents and their families can attend. This gives everyone the opportunity to contribute ideas, voice any concerns or discuss topics like meals, food or activities. Overall our experience with The Gables has been fantastic. As in everything in life you get back what you put in, the more positive interactions you have with staff and residents the more you and your loved one will feel a part of their new community.
