Very helpful staff. Satisfied and happy with the service provided for my husband.
A great place to work, a supportive team that really care about the residents. Would be happy to recommend this care home to any one considering a respite or permanent stay in a Cairns home.
Good location, nice rooms and committed staff. Very good wheelchair access, but more funding needed to increase care levels.
I had my Mum transferred out of that place, so needs an overhaul. It's got so many things wrong, too many to list. But I do feel for a couple if staff members who were kind to us both. I did know about the buzzer not working (as mentioned in another review). Also a phone call at 10 o'clock on a Friday night to tell me they once again had forgotten to give my Mum her medication was the last straw!
Today whilst visiting a resident I whitnessed a very distressing event. The emergency buzzer system that residents use to notify the staff in case of any emergency was not working. The residents that are not mobile are forced to use a system of knocking on walls between residents and then calling out down the hallway until they reach someone that is mobile and can notify staff in the event of an emergency. Today I was called by this system (knocking and calling out) to assist a resident 3 rooms down the hall that had used her emergency buzzer and after 15 minutes of waiting still hadn't been assisted. I found this very elderly resident gasping for air and sobbing. After trying to calm her I went to the regularly unattended back station and then searched the hallways for assistance. As I was unable to find a single staff to assist I exited to the front foyer where I found an administrative staff who told me should could not assist me. After demanding help she reluctantly found a nurse to assist. This is the 3rd time I have been asked by residents to find help due to buzzers not working or staff just not responding. After calling the general manager to report the incident I was advised they had been having intermittent problems with the emergency buzzer and that a technician was working on the system. I asked what procedures were in place in cause of any emergencies and was told the staff were doing 15 minute checks on the residents. This definitely didn't happen in the 45 minutes I was in the centre. I was also told they had bells to give the residents in case of an emergency but had not given them out. It's extremely disappointing to see this continually happening at an aged care facility where our loved ones are placed to ensure a high quality of care.
