Lack of communication between staff in the dementia ward. My Dad was just placed in bed or a wheelchair because that was easier rather than letting him walk. As a result his muscle strength was deteriorating so he was removed after only 2 weeks of his 3 week stay. He is now getting his strength back in his legs. I did advise staff on numerous occasions when visiting that he can walk, slowly but very capable, they weren't aware even though the information was in his file.
My parents moved into this beautiful facility almost 5 years ago as it’s first residents, both aged 95 at the time. The caring staff looked after them in adjoining rooms until deteriorating health separated them and my father passed away a year ago. Increasing dementia has meant Mum has needed special care in the locked section where the Staff have provided wonderful , kind care. Her recent 100th birthday was made a very memorable occasion with a party room supplied for reduced family attendance due to Covid restrictions - Decorated beautifully by staff members, cakes and hot drinks supplied and a special cake from the kitchen. A second party with ice cream cake was held for her within her section so she could celebrate with fellow residents and caring staff later in the afternoon ! Beautiful surroundings and wonderful caring people from nursing staff ( including AINs ), entertainment personnel, kitchen staff, groundsmen, office staff and Administrators make this a place where we are confident that our parents are cared for and treated with respect in their final years. I would highly recommend it .
My dear friend is there, was sad they would not let me have a quick goodbye before leaving the area.😪
All that glitters is definitely not gold. The first star was for the activities hands down great work, the second star was the reception girls and other caring staff unknown, the third star was how beautiful it looked inside, very nice. But if you don't want to have any interest in how your family member is going than this is the place to just dump and run. Don't ask questions and don't expect results quickly for what you have asked for and definitely don't question the nurses authority over your family members rights in their room or their personal cares. It was hard work and lost trust and confidence in what they said or did. In the end I took mum out and never regretted it.
My uncle is a resident there and I believe it is obe of the best places in Australia and they work with what they have. Also very expensive.
