I really don’t have anything good to say about Halls and Pryor Leighton Aged Care, our experience was not the best. Unfortunately our Dad had no choice - he HAD to go there from transitional care and he was there for 3 very long months. The staff (most of them) do the best they can with what they have. But there are not enough staff for the amount of patients and consequently, the patients who cannot take care of themselves, take a back seat and suffer in silence. Honestly, I could go on, but I won’t. If the above doesn’t put you off, then good luck!
Beware of this place. I would not even leave a pet here. Picked up my father today and his finger nails and two nails where way to long and infected. His clothes were filthy and his foot was badly damaged and also infected. The staff don't care and are not trained correctly. With the amount of money we have and are made pay there should be a higher standard. Food is not the greatest (I wouldn't eat it) I believe prisoner get feed better and staff to patients ratio is so wrong. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. I will be contacting the Onbudsman and Aprah Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and be reporting them. Treating older citizens like this is un humain SHAME ON YOU Hall & Prior Aged Care Group
I have found our nursing home experience at Leighton very positive. Although the building itself is older, there is a spacious feel. The front garden area allows for interaction with “ normal” city life - stimulation with cars going past, birds in trees, street noises. Staff are professional, friendly and always happy to chat. Many have been here a long time and genuinely seem to feel for the people they care for. Food quality is excellent with two hot meals a day! I feel very fortunate to have found Leighton and recommend people to check out this home for their loved ones.
My Dad isn't the easiest to deal with because of his Alzheimer's and on his first day he managed to pretend to be apart of another family leaving. The staff were great and we managed to find him quickly and without a scratch. They then changed the codes to the door and now residents are only able to leave with the supervision of a Staff member. There is always ample Staff on site and they are attentive and do what I ask of them. The facility is older but the care is good. The Care Manager is always kind to the residents and is even willing to get her hands dirty if required to assist the carers. They deserve more funding!!!
Avoid. The staff are extremely low-quality, the food is terrible, very few of the residents are compus mentus so your relative will feel quite lonely having nobody sane to talk to. It's a depressing facility with terrible lax security (hint for criminals: You could probably guess the security code in two tries). Your loved one(s) deserve better than this, even if they have dementia.
