Good Care involves having the correct Health Professionals doing the correct job. How can you claim excellent care when you have untrained care staff masquerading as Occupational Therapists and prescribing equipment for residents. Occupational Therapists are highly qualified, well trained and have to be registered with AHPRA in order to do their job. Allowing untrained staff to pretend to be therapists is unethical, dangerous and probably illegal as well.... Occupational Therapists should be prescribing and monitoring the use of equipment, they should also be carrying out ADL Assessments and Cognitive Assessments; they are trained to do these jobs... Nurses should stay inside their area of expertise, be Nurses and care staff should go and do their personal care... If care staff are going to be Physio Aides, then they should be very closely supervised and only do physio under the direction of a Physio. They need to stay right away from anything that is the role of an OT. Would you allow care staff to masquerade themselves as doctors and prescribe medications...?
