My father was in Regis Chelmer Palliative and respite care for his final months. The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the facilities were comfortable and open for visitors so we could attend to Dad whenever we wanted. Dad had wanted to be at home, but Regis staff helped us make his final months as good as he could possibly have had and we will always be thankful for the work the team did.
While you can be assured the staff are polite and treat the elderly with love, it is extremely clear that basic hygiene practice and basic care needs are often overlooked by the care staff. My elderly Nana, a sufferer of Dementia accidentally urinated on the bathroom floor today. It was "mopped" by the carer using her shower towel and was not followed up with any disinfection. I asked the staff member if she intended on disinfecting the floor, to which the response was "Oh the cleaners mop the floors." I replied, "Wonderful, when can I expect the cleaners to come in?" She said "Oh I don't know,". Once I found cleaners, I asked them if all staff had access to the utilities cupboard where they can find items to offer quick clean ups. The young gentlemen both said that the carers have access and should be mopping up little things like that as they see it. This is one example. There are plenty more experiences where hygiene and poor health care has been evident. Mouldy water jugs, anyone?
Upmarket nursing home.
We think this is one of the best aged care places and are very happy with the place, the rooms and the staff and care. Update July - We booked in for Dinner with my Mother. Soup followed by Chicken Kiev, and desert. Excellent food and service with our own table, and it gave my mother a chance to be host for us.
