Both of my parents were in respite here and I can only agree with the comment of a paramedic that “I wouldn’t put my dog in there.” Whether it’s lack of staff or just apathy, I would ask for staff to take care of something, like cutting my mum’s nails, and found that for this and every other issue I would have to follow up several times. The list of issues is too long for this review but Dad ended up with bed sores, a raw and bleeding bottom, an expensive hearing aid was lost, and Mum was dehydrated and her overall condition deteriorated. They both ended up in emergency multiple times, but that seemed to be less about care and more about possible liability. Awful, awful place!! Updated: I have discussed with the management in Toowoomba and subsequently sent a complaint to the TriCare head office nearly a week ago but nobody has responded to me
My brother was in tri care nursing home in Toowoomba they are very understaffed and on weekends they are so much understaffed it s not funny And I was not satisfied with the caring side that that my brother received And sometimes there is no communication between change over of staff I was not happy I am so disappointed with the service and treatment that he received so I am glad my brother is at peace and not in pain
The review comments of my brother and sister are very disappointing and are a result of over emotive reaction and ignorance of the care and procedures required when dealing with non-compliant dementia patients. Their reaction is a clear example of the trauma created when accepting a definitive diagnosis of dementia. Such diagnosis can stir up many emotions within families, and sadly, in this dreadful year of Covid isolation, most communication being by phone, it obviously comes as a shock to those who didn’t see it coming. However, it’s very sad to see those feelings of guilt, neglect and failure transferred onto the hard working and unfailingly kind staff at this Nursing Home. The absence of truth and full disclosure of the situation involving my mother within those reviews was created by my sister and brother to discredit the Tricare Nursing Home and staff. The reality is that my experience with Tricare has been nothing but positive. I received the utmost level of cooperation and disclosure. The staff were friendly, efficient and had an excellent rapport with their clients. The premises, though not new are in good order and kept spotlessly clean. A high level of entertainment is provided for those in the dementia ward and it was very heartening to see the majority enjoying the stimulation. l have no hesitation in recommending Tricare as a placement for those in need of Nursing Home care.
In the 4 days that my Mum was put there she had 2 falls, there is a real dangerous lack of staff, inexperienced as well, the person at the front counter is far from pleasant to deal with, it is the only nursing home that keeps the door locked to the front entry, one day we went to visit and we stayed outside (with another family visiting) in the rain for 20 minutes before a patient came to let us in, their excuse was that the buzzer wasn't working, obviously the lady at the front counter wasn't there, another time, there was an alarm going for around an hour in the dementia ward, their excuse was that they were waiting for an electrician, the beds look like they are from the fifties, we believe that because of the way everyone in the dementia ward was basically ignored, my Mum had another stroke which now has her in paliative care, my brother who is the enduring power of attorney forced her into a wheelchair and tore the back of her leg open, bruised her wrists and put her in Tri care Toowoomba against our wishes, in the 4 days, my Mums sheets were never changed so her leaking leg was soiling the sheet, her dressing on her leg was changed once, when we went back to pick up a few of her belongings that was left behind, we were not treated very well at all because their cash cow was not coming back, one day after visiting Mum, we went to leave and they were playing bingo in the hallway, there seems to be no recreation room, if anyone totally dislikes their beautiful parents then this would be the place to put them.
I have both my parents living at Tricare Toowoomba in a companion room. They are very settled and happy, love the care they get from all the staff, the activities and the food. They don't want to be anywhere else. I have found the property nice and clean, uncluttered, welcoming for everyone (including the family dog), well maintained outdoor garden areas, and the staff are like family taking an interest in my parent's lives and interests. Covid-19 restrictions are adhered to, which puts the family's mind at ease knowing my parents are safe and cared for during this time.
